How do you improve your golf game and take it to the next level? Well, you do need to practice, and you do need some help from someone who knows what they are talking about. It depends where you are at.

Let’s say you have a handicap in the 17-24 range, and you have been playing for a few years. I expect you think I am going to tell you how to get instruction to improve your swing. Well, I’m not.

The simple fact is that you will improve your golf game most by improving your short game. That’s your pitching, chipping and putting. Before going any further, can you get the ball up in the air with a wedge ? If not, then you need some basic lessons to improve your swing. Get some help from your professional or from an online golf swing e-course.

If you can get the ball up in the air with a wedge, and keep it on the fairway most of the time, then you are halfway there. First, get on the driving range and practice taking a full shot with the wedge. Don’t try to hit it too hard! Just nice and easy. Hit a couple more and see how far they went.

Next, swing the club back to 9 o’clock. That is with your arms about horizontal. See how far they go. Now try 8 o’clock and 11 o’clock. Ideally you want to go forward and see how far the ball went.

This way,you know how far the wedge sends the ball with four different lengths of swing. Keep practising like this for a while, and you will soon improve your game!

When you have done that, work on chipping the ball close to the hole with a 7 or 9 iron from 20 and 30 yards. Before long, your scores will improve.
